ENUM For Business
What is ENUM?
ENUM for Business can be viewed as a routing protocol to simplify the way VoIP calls are handled. ENUM allows callers know that you can recieve calls directly over the internet without using the traditional PSTN network.
An ENUM number is in the exact same format as the existing telephone number format that you are familiar with, so to the caller, there is no difference in the user experience or any need for change to existing dialing patterns.
ENUM translates telephone numbers into domain names, using the already established and robust DNS system as the routing directory. When a call is placed a DNS lookup is made to determine how to route the call. Using this technology it enables businesses to place calls to other businesses directly, via the internet, and for free.

Advanced call routing
ENUM enables calls to be routed according to individual preferences. For example, it is possible to route the call direct to your landline, whereby, if there is no answer, then the call is routed to a mobile, and, if there is no answer there either, it is routed to a voicemail system.
Unified communications
ENUM enables you to unify all your communication methods into a single telephone number and then to control how you are contacted. You can save your work telephone, home phone, mobile, fax, instant messaging, web, ICQ and email contact details into one ENUM entry, and then, depending on factors such as the user and the time of day, direct the call accordingly.
